PROCESS

A single piece of Tanishi Kundan Jewellery is done by different artisans. Kundan jewelry is created by setting carefully shaped, cut and polished multicolored gemstones into an exquisitely designed pure gold or faux metal base. The elaborate process begins with the skeletal framework on which wax is later poured and molded according to the design. Following this the stones or uncut gems are fit into the framework  using Kundan( gold foils) to hold the gems onto the framework. Traditional kundan Jewellery has stones,flat/uncut diamond “polki” encrusted on side and colourful and intricate Meenakari(enameling) on one side and colourful and intricate Meenakari on the reverse, enhance the look of the piece. Specialized and traditional closed back setting “Jadau” styles of Rajasthan.The criteria’s do the work of basic designing of the Jewellery, engraving work is carried out be Ghaaria’s,the enamelling work is done by the enameller, the goldsmith looks after the gold or Kundan work and finally stone Setters do work of just setting the precious stone in the holes of the Jewellery.Different precious stone which can be incorporated in Kundan Jewellery comprise of uncut diamonds, emerald, ruby, topaz, amethyst, jade, rock crystal, sapphires, agate, criteria garnet etc.
